I am going to be going to San Japan in August here in San Antonio, Texas on August 16th-18th.

This year, I intend to cosplay as Alex, the Red Time Force Ranger, in unmorphed form.

The uniform costume itself is not a problem. I can most likely make it.

The problem is:

In order to participate in the cosplay show, a costume has to follow these criterion:

*It must be made from scratch.
*It must be modified extensively, by 70% or more.

(You can't be in the show just to show off your costume, or what they call a "walk-on". You must have put effort into the creation of the costume.)

Now, the costume contains three small patches on both shoulders and on the front, respectively, and one giant insignia on the back that is required on the costume.

Here's the 3 small patches (fan-made):

Either way, I have to make the back insignia by myself.

The question I have is:

Would using the patches on the costume take significant points away from the criterion, or am I making things easier and wouldn't affect the outcome?

Good question, can you ask an organizer? 'cause I don't know what their criteria is.
